rosalind koons | experience

I wasn't able to attend the lunchtime lecture in-person, unfortunately, since I had conflicting assignments, so I watched the video Coach Hall posted instead. Rosalind Koons' works are crystalline and brightly colored, establishing a mystical or "alien" quality. However, while emphasizing alien and mystical appearances, I thought it was really cool that she also incorporated human biology. I thought it was cool as well that she used rock forms and bone-like vessels as the basis of her works, and then included vibrant colors and crystalline structures, so it's like there is an essence of human and natural biology in her work, despite the alien quality. I think she produces works that fit her view of what they should be and maintain an aesthetic; in fact, I actually was a big fan of the "mystical" colors she added! Lastly I thought the plastic hospital(?) tubing was an interesting addition to some of her works. Very synthetic in something that seems like it uses color and natural materials to seem "alive." Overall it was a really cool lecture that I wish I could've attended in-person, but it was still fun to learn about her!
