I chose Australian painter Kathy Karas to look into because her work captured my eye as I was searching for contemporary artists. I think the thing that was most appealing to me was the dripping motion of the trees, which made them, at first glance, look almost like jellyfish. It was almost very dark when it looked like the jellyfish, eerie-feeling with the blue being so dark and all. It's a really pretty painting though, and her use of color is interesting to me. It looks realistic even though the colors are just barely wrong -- the leaves are too blue and the ground is too reflective.

I like the way her artwork drips. It's realistic-ish, but it's not confined, especially her watercolor works. It sort of seems like she gives the paint a degree of freedom to spread naturally, like a watercolor stain or smear. This style and the colors she uses are really interesting and I'd love to try and replicate them.
