WHAT IS AN INTERIOR DESIGNER?

I chose to research what interior designers do. Although most interior design jobs are functionally similar, some interior designers are consultants with companies, and some work specifically for the government or another organization. Some take on specific roles within the umbrella of "interior design," such as in architectural interior design or in wood crafting.

WHAT DO INTERIOR DESIGNERS DO?

Interior designers work to make indoor spaces both functional and safe to be in while also elevating the space's aesthetic quality. To do this, they have to determine the aesthetic and architectural requirements of the space and select essential and decorative items accordingly. A majority of interior design is work in specialized design services or architectural-and-engineering-related services. A Bachelor's Degree is typically needed to work as an interior designer.

A typical workday for an interior designer could consist of: corresponding with clients and potential clients; showing clients previews of furniture/design plans; planning designs; and/or finding the perfect furniture and decorative items for the space being designed. A good eye for aesthetic and the ability to understand the aesthetic preference of the client would be important for an interior designer, as well as the ability to logically plan out and organize a space. Finally, modeling and 3D design skills would be important in order to plan out a accurately visualize a room/space.

WHAT CAN AN INTERIOR DESIGNER MAJOR IN?

The most obvious choice would be interior design, but if a college lacked that major, some similar majors would be:

1. Digital Design

2. Design Marketing

3. Graphic Design

4. Urban Planning
