abstract painting | process

Over the past 2-ish weeks we've been working on abstract expressionist paintings, and I feel like it's gone pretty well overall. I like my final painting and feel like the colors I chose worked well, plus the composition isn't horrible. It was rougher at the start when I didn't really know what I wanted to do, but as we kept working I feel I worked more with the painting to make something that felt complete and finished. I do think I could improve on (a) painting on a larger canvas, which most of the others did, I chose not to, and (b) working more with gestures rather than controlled movements. I think it worked out this time, but in the future I would like to try gestural brushstrokes and painting just to see what turns out. Overall though, I feel like abstract painting went well and I thought it was pretty fun.
